Architecture 2030
What is Architecture 2030?
Architecture 2030 was established in response to the climate change crisis by architect Edward Mazria in 2002. 2030’s mission is to rapidly transform the U.S. and global Building Sector from the major contributor of greenhouse gas emissions to a central part of the solution to the climate change, energy consumption, and economic crises. Their goal is straightforward: to achieve a dramatic reduction in the climate-change-causing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of the Building Sector by changing the way buildings and developments are planned, designed and constructed.
Why does TerraLogos support Architecture 2030?
TerraLogos: eco architecture formally adopted The 2030 Challenge in 2010 because our goals are compatible with the goals of Architecture 2030. We strive to create both compelling architecture and an enhanced environment for future generations. We understand that buildings are the major source of global demand for energy and materials and by reducing the amount of energy they consume and supporting regional materials and manufacturers, we have always supported the aim of The 2030 Challenge, even before it existed.
Since our founding in 2002, 92% of the projects we’ve designed or offered consulting services on met The 2030 Challenge. Since adopting the challenge we are determined to design carbon neutral buildings for our clients.

What is the AIA 2030 Commitment?
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2030 Commitment is a voluntary program for AIA member firms and other entities in the built environment that asks these organizations to make a pledge, develop multi-year action plans, and implement steps that can advance AIA’s goal of carbon neutral buildings by the year 2030. Architects are confronting the fact the buildings are the largest single contributor to the production of greenhouse gases and almost half of the total annual production.
Participating firms commit to a 4-step program in recognition of the AIA 2030 Commitment. Joining firms commit to establishing leadership, implement sustainable operation actions, and develop a sustainability action plan and complete annual progress reports.
How does TerraLogos support the AIA 2030 Commitment?
A combination of our existing mission of sustainable practices and Architecture 2030, the AIA 2030 Commitment naturally integrates into our existing way of practice. We’ve established internal leadership and begun our plan to achieve a carbon neutral office workplace. In addition to our existing recycling, water reduction methods and efficient utilities, we’re launching in-office compost and encouraging bike to work days. Since joining the AIA 2030 Commitment in 2011, 100% of our renovation and new construction work has met the goals of the Commitment. We look forward to sharing our annual report developed through the provided AIA tools and resources.
